Next...

Still alive (barely) amid frantic preparations for the upcoming Minor-Sakaki Duo performance. I would have updated my blog sooner if any of the people around me had bothered to be responsible and keep their promises. Next time, it's off with their heads!

Here's the press release:

SATURDAY, MARCH 31 · 2:30 p.m.
“MUSIC OF CONTEMPORARY WOMEN COMPOSERS” The Minor-Sakaki Duo presents a recital of music for piano solo and duet. The program features works by women composers from the twentieth century to the present and includes pieces by Amy Beach, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Zulema de la Cruz and Tamami Aburakawa. Pianists Carol Minor and Yayoi Sakaki will also give the US premiere of Groove Study XL, a work for piano duet by Japanese/British composer Yumi Hara Cawkwell. This event is sponsored by and will take place at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, NY. For more information contact Barbara Davis at (914) 632-7878 x34. Suggested donation: $2

Please stop by if you're in the area. I would feel terrible if Yumi came all the way from London to hear the concert and there was no audience.

$2?!? Please tell me that was a requirement from the venue. Do you get the whole cut? Have a little more self/duo-worth, eh? $10 is reasonable, if not still a little low.

We had nothing to do with the $2. We're paid separately with grant money - even the $2 is optional, so basically it's a free concert. If we were only making a cut from the house, it wouldn't even be enough to buy a sandwich at the library cafe (1 sandwich...we'd defnitely have to share).
